Breezy day in Enghien - September 2010
Gudrun Elvira II
The plan for Gudrun Elvira II was published by "Model Yachtsman" magazine in 1933. It is an evolution of a first Gudrun Elvira design published by the same magazine in 1928.
Gudrun Elvira belongs to the Model 6 Meter series, whose rating is based on the International Rule first published in 1907, and modified in 1919. It is in fact an International 6 Meter at a 1/7,2 scale, 1 2/3" to 1'.
encore active en Angleterre, avec notamment des plans dessinés par Graham Bantock.
Gudrun Elvira's designer was Sam O. Berge from Norway, who is reputed to have worked with the famous US architect Nathaniel Herreshof. Sam 0'Berge is credited for having invented the Vane gear, the first sophisticated self steering device for model yachts. He won the world championships in 1936 with his A Class model Yacht "Prince Charming".
One of his full scale designs is still quite popular in Norway, the GrimstadJolle.
Here is Gudrun Elvira II
Length overall is 62", for a displacement of about 21 lbs including a 14 lbs lead ballast. The "crew" allowance of 2 lbs conveniently allows for the RC equipment.
The hull is planked from red cedar with steam bent ash frames.
Gudrun at her launch. The RC steup is copied from the EC12 including RMG 280 sailwinch and twitcher. I added a traveller for the jib.
Breezy day. The mast is made of spruce, Dacron sails. Gudrun is an excellent and very pleasant all weather boat.
